July 23, 2010 Storm Damage
A severe thunderstorm hit Coldwater
on the evening of Friday, July 23, 2010. There was no tornado, but a
big burst of wind hit northwest Coldwater along a tornado-like path,
knocking down trees and branches. Power was knocked out for about 3 1/2
hours. The path followed Grand Street, plus the area east to Marshall
St. and west to Western Ave. Interestingly, there was no noticeable
damage (in the city) outside of this area. The following is a collage
of photos from July 24, showing the clean-up after the storm.
State St. was lined with broken branches on both sides.
CBPU worked hard to replace a
telephone pole on N. Hanchett St. that had snapped off at the base.
Another CBPU crew worked by the high school.
A third CBPU crew worked at Grand St. and Clarke.
At the high school, a tent and a
soccer goal were blown over.
Several trees were broken at the
middle school.
More broken trees at the middle
school.
This fallen tree completely blocked
the walking path behind the middle school.
Several trees were also damaged at Max Larsen Elementary.
More damaged trees by Max Larsen.
Not sure if the swings got tangled by the wind or by vandalism.
Prior to clean-up, this large tree completely blocked Pierce St. just
east of Marshall St.
