The biggest event of the year in Coldwater is the Memorial Day Weekend / Civil War Days. This year, the organizers have their own website, so now it's easy to browse the schedule of events to find out how to participate. There's also a photo gallery from previous years' events, a registration form for volunteers, etc. The website is: http://civilwardays.webs.com/. Cool!
It was a cold, windy, overcast day for yesterday's Ice Fest, with the temperature around 20 degrees. It was said on TV that this was the coldest January in 15 years (with the temperature rarely getting above freezing the entire month). For those who braved the weather, there was much to see and do. In September I posted a new page endorsing Facebook for social networking, but forgot to announce it here. The page also gives instructions about how to get a free "I love MyColdwater.com" piece of flair. It looks some of you have already found the flair, as there are now 18 Facebook users who have it. So it looks like we have an unofficial fan club! There is also an experimental, as-of-yet unadvertised MyColdwater.com Facebook group which already has 8 members. I haven't decided how to best use the group yet, but I think it should make a good general discussion board for community happenings (e.g., Coldwater events, local gas prices, good places to shop, Camp Branch closing, city council decisions, etc.). If you'd like to take the initiative and start posting there, feel free to do so!
This photo (taken just before the recent snows) shows the interesting refurbishing work going on at the old Piefer's building at Marshall and State streets. Work has seemed to slow just a bit, but it will be interesting to see how the project comes out. The new business MIGHT be "Taxes Latino", according to the lettering on the new windowed door.
