When I had originally reported in Business News / What's Changing that Synders had moved to an adjacent building, I couldn't figure it out. Why go through all the trouble of moving if only to another building in the same plaza, especially if the new location isn't any larger and it's less prominent? A week later I drove by and was totally surprised when the old building was... completely gone! Well, that explains it. It's still curious that the landlord would find it cheaper to raze the old building and convert it, presumably, to parking, rather than try to find new tenants for the old building. But it probably will look nice and less "cramped" once this de-construction project is finished.
Here's something really neat: A fund raiser card for the high school football team. One of the football players knocked on my door last night and I bought one for $10. These cards not only support the team, but you also get discounts at a bunch of local businesses when you present the card (e.g., 10% off dinner at Coldwater Garden, 10% off any purchase at Tasty Twist, etc.). Plus, you can use the card over and over again for a full year. So the card is a way for the community to support local businesses as well as the Cardinals. Go Cardinals!! The football team's web page is very short and doesn't have information about the cards, so I made a new page here on MyColdwater.com where you can check out all the details... click here to see it.
The Taco Bell drive-thru is now closed as they complete the final stages of the remodel. I believe it is reopening later this month. Finally, the building is starting to take shape and look like something cool.
Here's a picture from the opening ceremonies of the Community Kids College 2008, held at Legg Middle School. The turnout was great - about 100 kids are participating, learning skills like cooking, animal care, crafts, and soccer. I'm teaching a class on fun memory improvement skills. The college continues daily 9:00-11:45am. It's not too late to bring your child this week, as some courses are not filled and can accept new students mid-week.
