Late last year, the empty lot next to Postula Computer Services (by McDonald's) sold at auction. The owner of Postula didn't take his signs down, so what I didn't realize is that he had also sold his store and had moved out. At least not until my wife spotted the gaping holes in the roof and all the windows busted out. Then yesterday I spotted a ladder fire truck by the store, so I went to check it out. A note on the back of the store says, "Attention! Dear Customers of Postula Computer Services, I have sold this property, and will begin working out of my home as of December 6, 2010. If you still have merchandise here that needs to be picked up, please call me immediately at (517) 279-9551. Nothing else will change other than I will be picking up and delivering the systems to your home or business. Thank you for your continued business over the years. -- Nick Postula." In looking at the store, it doesn't look like an accident or arson, so my guess is that it's being used for firefighting training. Regardless, with the utter disregard for the damage to the building, it looks like it is almost certain to be razed. (It is a nice house, but just outside of the Historic District, so it's not super-old and won't have restrictions on tearing it down.) The lot is in a prime location and might end up with a new fast food joint on it. On the other hand, the economy hasn't been good lately, and there's another empty lot by Rite Aid (very close by) that is currently for sale but has been sitting empty for years. It will be interesting to see what happens.
